Rescue/Safety Specialist

The primary function of the Rescue/Safety Specialist is to provide technical rescue and safety standby for SES projects. This includes confined space rescue and technical rope rescue. The ideal candidate will assist in assessing risks, inventorying rescue equipment to ensure it is in a ready state, and documenting and communicating the rescue plan. The ideal candidate will also communicate effective solutions towards safe working practices in compliance with client’s standards. In case of an incident and rescue services are summoned, the specialist locates the patient, assesses any injuries, packages for extrication, safely removes the victim(s) from the threatening environment and prepares the victim(s) for EMS transport.

This position requires a dedicated, self-motivated person with 2+ years of rescue experience. When not performing rescue services while on a project, he/she will perform tasks such as health, safety, environmental audits, inventory of consumables and equipment, equipment inspections and calibrations, and support Operations as needed.

The Rescue/Safety Specialist reports to the Health and Safety Manager and is responsible for but not limited to the following:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in assessing potential hazards and drafts a Confined Space Rescue Preplan and a Rescue Safety Analysis.

  • Identifies and communicates potential hazards to all affected parties.

  • Determines hazard controls and emergency contingency plans and ensures that required safety equipment and PPE is readily available and in good working order.

  • Conducts assessment of local emergency services to determine the best facility to deal with anticipated emergencies.

  • Conduct general air quality monitoring and make recommendations for hazard control or personal protective equipment based on the interpretation of this data.

  • Conduct daily job briefings with customer and workers.

  • Performs on-going monitoring of job conditions, equipment resources and monitor vital signs of confined space entrants.

  • Reports observations and recommendations to Project Manager and HSE Department to assure both worker and team safety is maintained at all times.

  • Completes daily reports

  • In case of accident, locates the patient, assesses any injuries, packages for extrication, removes patient from the threatening environment and turns over to EMS for medical attention and transport. Renders first aid and CPR to the level of training.

  • Follows handling, inspection, cleaning and preventative maintenance guidelines for all rescue equipment so that it is in a constant state of readiness

  • Maintains an accurate inventory of all rescue related equipment

  • Assists with special projects as assigned

  • Acknowledge safety responsibilities, defined by the SES, Client and regulatory agencies prior to commencing work on the project

  • Hazard awareness and communication

  • Promote safe job performance while monitoring project activities

  • Monitor areas for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions

  • Perform gas monitor field calibration

  • Perform confined space attendant or air bottle-watch functions when required

  • Maintain clean office and work areas

  • Assist with emergency First Aid as required

  • Perform other duties as required

PERFORMANCE MEASURES/REQUIREMENTS

  • 70-80% travel required

  • Must have telephone and reliable transportation

  • May require the need to work irregular hours, nights, weekends and/or holidays

  • Successful completion of OSHA and industry standard training as a condition of employment

  • Successful completion of background, drug and alcohol testing

  • Must be qualified to drive a Company vehicle

  • Physically capable of performing all duties and responsibilities for his/her position

Qualifications (Required)

  • 2+ years of technical rescue experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • CPR, First Aid with AED,

  • 40hr Confined Space Rescue Training

  • TWIC

  • Valid Driver’s License

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • EMR (Emergency Medical Responder)

  • EMT-B/P (Emergency Medical Technician- Basic/Paramedic)

  • Firefighter

  • Supervisor and/or Management experience a plus

  • Experience in petrochemical industry
