Rescue/Safety Specialist

Summary
The Rescue Specialist / Process Operator position is a dual role. This position allows the person to provide technical confined space rescue standby for PATH projects when required and to serve as a Process Operator when rescue services are not indicated. When serving as rescue the ideal candidate will assist in assessing risks, inventorying rescue equipment to ensure it is in a ready state, and documenting and communicating the rescue plan. They will also communicate effective solutions towards safe working practices in compliance with client’s standards. In case of an incident and rescue services are summoned, the specialist locates the patient, assesses any injuries, packages for extrication, safely removes the victim(s) from the threatening environment and prepares the victim(s) for EMS transport. This position requires a dedicated, self-motivated person with 2+ years of rescue experience.

As a member of the Processing Group, they will be tasked with performing physical labor and monitoring on worksites. They will monitor equipment and process variables in order to assist in project processing operations. Field tasks include fueling, cleaning, maintaining and monitoring of process equipment. Processing equipment monitoring to include pumps, filtration skids, steam boilers, nitrogen generation equipment and liquid storage vessels to aid in system processing and function. Troubleshooting of all systems and componentry during a project or at an PATH facility will be a responsibility of the Processing Operator. The Process Operator is responsible for ensuring proper internal system documents are accurate in order to correctly diagnose system issues and provide solutions in terms of adjusting PATH equipment and processes.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  1. Assists in assessing potential hazards and drafts a Confined Space Rescue Preplan and a Rescue Safety Analysis.
  2. Identifies and communicates potential hazards to all affected parties.
  3. Determines hazard controls and emergency contingency plans and ensures that required safety equipment and PPE is readily available and in good working order.
  4. Conducts assessment of local emergency services to determine the best facility to deal with anticipated emergencies.
  5. Conduct general air quality monitoring and make recommendations for hazard control or personal protective equipment based on the interpretation of this data.
  6. Conduct daily job briefings with customer and workers.
  7. Performs on-going monitoring of job conditions, equipment resources and monitor vital signs of confined space entrants.
  8. Reports observations and recommendations to Project
  9. Manager and HSE Department to assure both worker and team safety is maintained at all times.
  10. Completes daily reports
  11. In case of accident, locates the patient, assesses any injuries, packages for extrication, removes patient from the threatening environment and turns over to EMS for medical attention and transport. Renders first aid and CPR to the level of training.
  12. Follows handling, inspection, cleaning and preventative maintenance guidelines for all rescue equipment so that it is in a constant state of readiness
  13. Maintains an accurate inventory of all rescue related equipment
  14. Assists with special projects as assigned

  • Acknowledge safety responsibilities, defined by the SES, Client and regulatory agencies prior to commencing work on the project

  • Hazard awareness and communication

  • Promote safe job performance while monitoring project activities

  • Monitor areas for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions

  • Perform gas monitor field calibration

  • Perform confined space attendant or air bottle-watch functions when required

  • Maintain clean office and work areas

  • Assist with emergency First Aid as required

  • Perform other duties as required

PERFORMANCE MEASURES/REQUIREMENTS

  • 70-80% travel required

  • Must have telephone and reliable transportation

  • May require the need to work irregular hours, nights, weekends and/or holidays

  • Successful completion of OSHA and industry standard training as a condition of employment

  • Successful completion of background, drug and alcohol testing

  • Must be qualified to drive a Company vehicle

  • Physically capable of performing all duties and responsibilities for his/her position

Qualifications (Required)

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Active TWIC card

  • Active and unrestricted Driver’s License

  • DISA background score of 2 or less

  • Negative results on all substance abuse testing protocols set forth by company and clients

  • Passing grade on PATH Operator’s training course (>80% score)

  • Physically able to perform all duties required including lifting 50 pounds

  • Ability to drag 200lbs across 100 feet alone utilizing SKED or similar system

  • Pass a job specific physical without restrictions

  • Ability to wear and work under supplied air system and/or SCBA

  • Must have access to a telephone and reliable transportation

  • Ability to work at heights

  • Ability to work in confined spaces

  • English fluency

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • EMR (Emergency Medical Responder)

  • EMT-B/P (Emergency Medical Technician- Basic/Paramedic)

  • Firefighter

  • Supervisor and/or Management experience a plus

  • Experience in petrochemical industry
